Job Openings Operations Manager - Modern and Contemporary Arts
Position Overview
Responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and acquiring artworks within the modern and contemporary art market. Curating a dynamic and valuable art collection that reflects the aesthetic vision and strategic objectives of our organization or clientele through the strategic acquisition.
Artwork Sourcing: Identify and source modern and contemporary artworks through various channels, including galleries, art fairs, auctions, and online platforms.
Market Research: Stay abreast of current trends, developments, and prices in the modern and contemporary art market. Conduct research on artists, art movements, and art market dynamics to inform purchasing decisions.
Evaluation and Selection: Assess the quality, authenticity, and value of artworks based on aesthetic merit, provenance, condition, and market demand. Use your expertise to curate a collection of artworks that align with client preferences or organizational goals.
Negotiation: Negotiate with artists, galleries, and sellers to secure favorable terms and prices for artworks. Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors to facilitate future transactions.
Evaluate property and liaise with the auctioneer to establish auction estimation and bids.
Due Diligence: Conduct due diligence on artworks to ensure authenticity, legality, and compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards. Verify provenance, ownership history, and documentation for each artwork.
Performing appraisals for art works as required, including conducting valuations for insurance, far market valuation, and auction estimate purpose.
Sales and Acquisition: Facilitate the sale and acquisition of artworks on behalf of clients or your organization. Manage the logistics of purchasing, shipping, and handling artworks, ensuring timely delivery and safe transportation.
Client Consultation: Consult with clients to understand their preferences, tastes, and budgetary constraints. Provide expert advice and guidance on art acquisitions, helping clients build meaningful and valuable art collections.
Portfolio Management: Maintain accurate records of art inventory, transactions, and client preferences. Monitor the performance of artworks in the collection and make recommendations for acquisitions, sales, or deaccessions as needed.
Networking and Relationship Building: Cultivate relationships with artists, collectors, curators, and industry professionals to expand your network and stay connected to the art community. Attend art events, exhibitions, and cultural gatherings to build your reputation and expertise in the field.
