What does a Sales Representative do?

Sales Representatives act as the point of contact between a company and its clients. They are responsible for selling the products or services of the company by contacting potential customers and explaining the benefits of the product or service to them. They are in charge of discovering leads and converting them to new clients. Sales Representatives are also responsible for delivering outstanding customer service to current clients. They may work directly for the manufacturer or an independent sales agency with manufacturers and distributors as clients. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are a must for being appointed as a Sales Representative as their main job is to communicate and influence potential clients. Confidence and the ability to develop relationships are also necessarily required.

Responsibilities of a Sales Representative

The expected duties to be performed by a Sales Representative include:
• Representing company’s products and services before potential customers • Scheduling meetings with prospective customers • Generating leads and building relationships • Understanding the needs of prospects • Identifying buyer persona profiles • Coordinating with sales and marketing teams • Having a strong understanding of product inventory • Maintaining a well-developed pipeline of prospective customers • Retaining solid relationships with existing customers • Meeting weekly, monthly, and quarterly sale quotas • Preparing sales reports • Being updated with the latest sale trends and practices • Creating new strategies to boost sales • Giving in-person product demonstrations to customers when required • Solving customer problems and complaints • Getting feedback from customers • Informing the concerned department about feedbacks • Keeping track of sales activities

Requirements of a Sales Representative

The desirable qualifications for the position of Sales Representative are:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, Marketing, or related field • Proven work experience as a Sales Representative or other related role • Relationship Management skills • Knowledge of BRM and CRM practices • Proficiency in computer programs • Excellent communication skills • Sound knowledge of telemarketing and digital marketing
