Job Description - HR Generalist - Career Growth Potential

West Coast Dental has an immediate opening for a Human Resources Generalist to support the Human Resources Department and company. The Human Resources Generalist performs a wide variety of professional level human resource functions including interpreting human resources policies and laws. In addition, the HR Generalist carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Human Resources Information Systems (ADP-HRIS), benefits, unemployment, FMLA and worker’s compensation administration, safety and employee relations.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct support to the Human Resources Department.
  • Tactfully and responsibly handles sensitive employee information.
  • Facilitates employment-related processes for new and current employees.
  • Advises staff on leave policies and requests for time off. Coordinates and processes leave of absence scheduling, tracking, and documentation.
  • Familiarizes new and current employees with company policies, procedures, and benefits.
  • Administers benefits programs, including: (1) analysis; (2) serves as primary employee contact, primary contact with benefits broker, and (3) benefit reconciliation.
  • Maintains integrity, maturity and confidentiality in conversations, communication and security of all HR documents, processes, audits, and employee interactions.
  • Addresses employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
  • Participates in employee and labor relations investigations and resolutions, disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, etc. as directed by the HR Manager.
  • Provides verbal phone confirmation for employee verification checks, as well as completing written verifications.
  • Completes various tasks and projects as needed for the Senior Director, Human Resources.
  • Conducts exit interviews and employee satisfaction surveys.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Human Resources with a minimum 2 years of HR experience
  • Knowledge of employment related and compliance legislation including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, PFL, ADA, and EEOC
  • Understands applicable laws, regulations, and government requirements and their impact on the business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including written communication, executive presentations, and stand-up speaking skills; comfortable presenting to and facilitating work with all employees.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using MS Office Suite, Excel, PowerPoint and Word skills.
  • Strong technical skills, experience and familiarity with ADP-HRIS; experience using ADP Workforce Now a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • HR Certification (SHRM-CP or PHR) a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Creative with a friendly and approachable character.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 2-4 years of HR Generalist experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several ongoing projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of organization.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).

Leave of Absence

  • Administer all types of leave – medical, pregnancy, military, domestic violence, WC, etc.
  • Coordinate employees’ return date between the employee and the supervisor.
  • Collect medical certification and evaluate return on FT duty or modified duty for accommodation.
  • Send out correspondence pertaining to accommodation of leave and collection of medical, dental & supplemental benefit premium.
  • Monthly LOA Report for VPA and payroll purposes.

Worker’s Comp

  • Worker’s Comp Administration with Quarterly Status Updates.
  • Coordinate WC coverage for new offices.
  • WC – OSHA300A annual posting requirements (annually – December 1 to April 30).
  • Coordinate WC activity modification accommodation & return to work between employee & supervisor.
  • Maintain MPN assignments for existing and new offices.
  • Coordinate injured employee treatment with MPN.
  • Work closely with VPA during policy renewal – review of Loss Runs (annually – October).
  • Implement and administer Safety Programs for Workers Comp.
  • Review of modified activity requests for accommodation.

Comp: 65-70k Exempt

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (May have some flexibility)

Work Schedule: In Office Monday - Friday

Travel Requirements: None
