Job Description:
The Principal serves as the educational leader and chief administrator of Saint Demetrios Greek-American School, responsible for implementing and managing the policies, regulations, and procedures of the New York State Board of Education to ensure that all students are supervised in a safe learning environment that meets the approved curricula and mission of the school. The Principal will report to the School Superintendent and work collaboratively with the School Board, Assistant Principals, teachers, staff, parents, to enhance our students’ educational standards and achievements, ensuring adherence to our values and rich Greek Orthodox heritage.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee the school’s daily operations, ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and requirements
• Lead the development and implementation of academic curriculum and educational programs that meet the needs of students and align with the school’s mission
• Manage the school’s budget, resources, and facilities to support its educational goals
• Lead efforts to recruit, hire, and retain highly qualified staff
• Manage staff and school personnel, including creating and maintaining written observation reports and annual performance
• Promote a culture of excellence in teaching and learning with high standards and expectations for all students and staff
• Foster the integration of Greek language, culture, and Orthodox values into the curriculum
• Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement professional growth and development strategies
• Develop and implement programs impacting student experience, including enhanced athletic and extracurricular activities spanning wide range of student interest across humanities, STEM, performance arts, music, etc.
• Engage with parents and the community to promote participation and support for school activities and objectives
• Evaluate teacher performance and student achievement, implementing necessary changes to improve outcomes
• Develop and implement school policies and procedures, as needed
• Ensure a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment for all
• Develop and implement strategic plan, as needed, to meet the school’s mission and values
Qualifications:
· Valid State-issued School Administrator/Supervisor certification
· Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience, with at least 3 years in educational leadership roles
· Experience in NYC public and/or private or parochial schools preferred
· Strong understanding of curriculum development, instructional strategies, and educational technologies
· Knowledge of grant writing preferred
· Demonstrated excellence in leadership, organizational, and communication skills
· Demonstrated commitment to promoting Greek Orthodox values and traditions
Skills and Abilities:
• Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire teachers and students
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions
• Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills
• Ability to set, measure, and monitor student and staff performance goals, and to implement action plans to address areas of improvement as reflected by the relevant metrics/data
• Ability to engage and build partnerships with the community
• Capacity to implement and adapt to change efficiently and effectively
Salary Range: $110,000-$140,000 yearly
