Job Summary



The Career Consultant position is shared with the the Center for Transfer and Adult Students and the School of Liberal Arts.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Advises students and provides students career advice.
  • Interacts with students and other stakeholders within the university for information exchange and issues resolution.
  • Develops, implements, and administers plans, programs, and events for student career planning and development in support with students' individual goals.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
  • Provides career guidance for General Studies students at both the beginning and end of their educational journeys.
  • Collaborates with General Studies advisors to create and build relationships with students.
  • Tracks and reports outcomes for General Studies students based on career consultation intervention.
  • Teaches one Career Connections course per semester that guides adult learners through career exploration and college success strategies.
  • Supports CTAS student population with career consultation needs.
  • Represents CTAS at events to promote career consultation services.
  • Collaborates with CTAS team to advocate for career integration in planning and programming.
  • Provides career advising to students and alumni through in-person, telephone, virtual, and drop-in appointments with a focus on General Studies majors.
  • Facilitates multiple career-related events, workshops and classroom presentations each semester on topics relating to careers, job, and internship search strategies and the career development process.
  • Executes career development programming in Liberal Arts first year seminar courses.
  • Collaborates with Liberal Arts Office of Student Affairs.
  • Represents CTAS and the School of Liberal Ars on campus career committees and councils.
  • Documents career services within student success technologies.
  • Supports Liberal Arts instructors for career-related assignments.

General Responsibilities



  • Assists with professional and career development of students and alumni through career assessments, exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning. Focuses efforts on resume building, interview skill development, mock interview, and job search preparation and navigation; graduate school application and interview preparation through counseling appointments and consultations.
  • Develops and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.
  • Supports faculty and students with career exploration, internships, job shadow experiences, presentations, and facilitation of resources available for career development.
  • Serves on various community and institutional committees to build partnerships across the university and among comparable universities to build knowledge base.
  • Assists in the process of collecting and tracking data for office assessment purposes. Utilizes data to assist in the creation of office objectives and goals to meet the needs of the student population.
  • Works through issues with a variety of stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty. Identifies and capitalizes on connections between groups of stakeholders and leverage those connections in unique ways through events and interactions
  • May provide guidance and delegate administrative tasks to other career services staff.
  • May make process recommendations for improved operational efficiency.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required

  • 2 years in career consulting or related field.

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary



$40,000 - $49,552 per year based on experience.
