Job Description - Chief Information Officer

Purpose:

The CIO will guide a transformation of David’s Bridal’s technology team to delight internal and external customers, to deliver outcomes that drive the current business, and to open new avenues of growth for the company. This person will lead the technology team to exploit new opportunities presented by the changes in retail and advances in technology – including the modernization of our architecture, development and operations practices, and guiding the creation of a technology roadmap that optimally serves the needs of today’s business, anticipates its evolution, and sets David’s Bridal up to capitalize on growth opportunities.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead with integrity and vision, inspire the technology team and drive innovation that matters to our customers and business. You will challenge the status quo to provide new, transformative solutions. You will foster an environment of transparency and continuous improvement, where the collective resources of your team are constantly focused on work that drives the greatest long-term impact to the company. You will enhance operational excellence, including ensuring that major projects are delivered on time and on budget.
  • Build and nourish a world-class technology team and provide continuous learning opportunities for the members of your team so that they can enhance their skills and provide increasing value to the company over time. You will establish David’s Bridal IT as a magnet for strong talent by building and maintaining a best-in-class team that leverages modern technologies & methodologies, instilling a culture of continuous learning and improvement and, most importantly, generates tremendous outcomes for the company.  
  • Constantly look for opportunities to drive down operational costs so that more resources can be devoted to work that propels growth and profitability.  
  • Guide the evolution of the company’s reporting and analytics capabilities to ensure that the business teams have tremendous visibility to all parts of the business and can leverage data to capitalize on market opportunities.  
  • Identify the partners and technologies that can accelerate transformation, guide the negotiation of agreements with these partners to ensure that the company receives excellent value over the life of these partnerships, and build long-term relationships to ensure that David’s Bridal is able to extract maximum value from our technology platform by leveraging the collective wisdom of our network of technology partners.  
  • Monitor changes or advancements in technology to discover ways the company can gain competitive advantages. Analyze the costs, value, and risks of new information technology to advise management and suggest actions.  
  • Provide solutions to problems as they arise working effectively as a leader and developing working relationships needed to accomplish organizational goals.  

Qualifications – Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Required or Preferred):

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field and related work experience. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 15+ years progressive experience.Retail experience preferred. 

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong business acumen coupled with the ability to understand the unique role that technology will play to achieve ambitious growth plans.
  • Ability to partner with people across the company to identify and execute upon opportunities for technology to grow revenue and profitability.
  • Ability to influence beyond IT to the entire company working closely with peer and contribute directly to the formulation and execution of company’s growth strategy, while aligning IT organizational goals with company objectives.
  •  Must have a history of always acting with integrity and collaborating well with executive teams.
  • Smart, quick, direct, pro-active decision maker, who can adapt quickly to the company’s operating environment and capture the trust and respect of colleagues at all levels.

Other Requirements:

  • Hands on experience modernizing a technology team and platform.Ideally this experience will include optimizing agile development practices, including continuous integration (CI), test-driven development (TDD) and continuous deployment (CD)
  • Simplifying technology deployment; and evolving technical infrastructure to optimize scalability, performance, cost & security – moving from aprimarily physical/on premise infrastructure to a cloud-based infrastructure.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate promptly and accurately via computer, telephone, or similar device with or without assistive technology
  • Ability to perform sedentary work
  • Ability to travel by car, rail or air
