Job Description - Cleaning Specialist

30-35 hours per week

Cleaning Specialist

General responsibilities: 

The Cleaning Specialist works to ensure that public and private spaces are kept neat, tidy, and sanitary. Are responsible for stocking, supplying and cleaning designated facility areas (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, etc.). Will perform deep cleaning tasks and may have additional cleaning duties as needs arise. Keep an effective flow of communication going with the administrative team. 

 

Accountability

The Cleaning Specialist is accountable to the Administrator. 

 

Expectations

The Cleaning Specialist is expected to create a clean, sanitary and welcoming environment in the center. They are expected to follow and maintain Thrive, health department and state standards for cleaning and sanitizing. The Cleaning Specialist is expected to lead by example, help set the spiritual tone around the center and work closely with other staff and families. 

 

Specific Duties

  • Be a Christian role model for the children and families.
  • Empty trash into the appropriate waste bins and ensure that receptacles are kept clean and free of smell
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas and spot clean when necessary
  • Sweep, mop, and polish floors using the appropriate cleaning supplies
  • Clean and dust furniture, ledges, light fixtures, and other hard to reach places
  • Wash windows, mirrors and glass surfaces and ensure they are free of streaks
  • Clean and disinfect restrooms and ensure that soap and paper dispensers are well-stocked
  • Take inventory of cleaning supplies and materials and communicate when more supplies are needed
  • Inform administration of anything that is broken or not functioning correctly so that the issue is resolved promptly
  • Complete checklists for daily, weekly and monthly cleaning requirements

 

Qualifications/Attributes/Education Needed: 

  • Strong time management skills in order to ensure all work is completed by the end of shift
  • Demonstrate an understanding of standard cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Self-starter who takes the initiative to determine and complete necessary tasks, even with minimal supervision
  • Positive attitude and ability to work as part of a team
  • Clear written and verbal communication ability
  • Cleaning experience preferred
  • Must be able to manage confidential information
  • Possess a strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to pass a background check

 

Physical Qualifications:

  • Is able to observe, hear, and respond with decisive action to the needs of children, emergencies, or conflicts that might occur on the grounds or within the center
  • Works in a fast pace setting using current technologies
  • Is able to lift up to 50 lbs for short periods of time 
  • Is able to crouch to a child’s height and maintain eye contact at a child’s level
  • Stand tall enough to reach children on play equipment
  • Is able to sit on the floor 
  • Appropriately manages the stress and tension of daily contact with families and staff
  • Comprehends and communicates orally and in writing 
  • Is able to lift and move portable classroom supplies and equipment
  • Is able to consistently work scheduled hours

 

Shared Responsibilities for all staff members

  • Set the spiritual tone for the children in the classroom
  • Spend time learning God’s word together, praying for the families and fellow staff members
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect – follow school guidelines for improving student performance and take initiative to clearly communicate discipline concerns to the administrative team and parents or guardians
  • Abide by the terms and policies of the school as described in the Thrive Childcare handbooks
  • Take initiative to build relationships with the children and their parents/guardians, receives and manages classroom related compliments, concerns, and complaints
  • Ensure effective communication within the early education team (documents and verbalizes child’s daily activities for childcare and preschool age parents/guardians, performs parent/guardian conferences and children’s assessments twice a year and is available to the parents or guardians as needed) 
  • Ensure proper record keeping that complies with governing laws and regulations
  • Provide a dynamic Christian early educational experience that is safe, secure, and filled with faith, family and fun 
  • Ensure a well-rounded spiritually and cognitively rich curriculum 
  • Attend in-service training, school events and fundraisers as required by the administration
  • Create positive foundational memories by utilizing the facility and its metaphors as an additional teaching tool 
  • Ensure the classroom opens and closes appropriately on a daily basis
  • Manage self in order to be available for unplanned “God appointments” and ministry opportunities
