Job Description - Content Marketing Specialist

The YMCA of Northern Colorado is seeking an eager communicator, creative content producer and an organized team player to support the marketing and promotions efforts of this fast-growing nonprofit organization.

The Content Marketing Specialist will tackle a wide variety of tasks related to growing social media engagement, supporting departmental processes, boosting creativity and building awareness of the Y’s membership, programs, hiring and impact. That includes everything from taking photos and video in our programs and facilities and brainstorming share-worthy social media content to working on email marketing communications, gathering program details and organizing event information.

This position is a little bit admin, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll.

The Y’s content specialist will be a Swiss Army Knife-type marketer who can do a little bit of a lot… And it’s going to take someone pretty sharp to cut it. We are looking for someone who can harness their organizational skills, marketing passion and creativity to help one of Northern Colorado’s largest nonprofits inform, engage and uplift members, program participants, donors, staff and community members.

Does that sound like #careergoals? #marketingforgood

You might be the right candidate if you…

  • You understand the foundations of nonprofit and for-profit marketing. You know a bit about branding, storytelling and connecting with the right audiences at the right time with the right messaging. You can’t wait to learn more and grow as a nonprofit marketer. You have solid writing skills; bonus points for being an experienced marketing writer who has strong opinions about commas, subject lines, blogs and brand voice.
  • You are creative, and you love a good meme. Even better if you love creating memes. You have stellar camera skills, snapping and editing photos and videos like a pro (though, no need to be an actual pro). Ideally, we would love to hire a content creator who has a vision of how our nonprofit organization can use social media to tell our story, share our impact, recruit staff and sell our programs — all while staying true to our values, areas of impact and brand.
  • You are organized. Like, super-duper organized. You are detail oriented, and you appreciate others who share those qualities. This position will help collect and coordinate event information from our staff — digitally or with a good ol’ fashioned phone call — and help the entire marketing department stay on top of the many YMCA offerings that need promotion.
  • You are a fast learner and lover of new technology. You may not be an SEO pro or a master of Mailchimp, but you have a foundation of knowledge on which you are ready and eager to build.
  • You are a self-starter: When you see a need, you take action.
  • You play nice with others while also being an assertive, professional communicator. Our ideal candidate is an eager team player who can develop professional relationships with a diverse array of individuals and groups.

When you apply, please include a link to writing clips as well as a video and photo portfolio as well as a cover letter and resume.

  • Assists the Chief Marketing Officer/Senior Vice President of Program Development with organization of new program initiatives. This includes writing and editing program descriptions, coordinating and organizing new program and event information and meeting with program director level staff as needed. The position will also help with the master and seasonal program and event calendars, update website events, and work with staff and the Marketing/Communications Department on promotion
  • Takes photos and videos of YMCA programs, people and events throughout Northern Colorado and Cheyenne and transforms that media into content for our marketing and fundraising collateral
  • Assists the Digital Marketing Specialist with social media efforts, including developing creative content campaigns and posts to drive engagement and build awareness of Y programs, impact and hiring
  • Assists with email marketing campaigns. This includes collecting, editing and organizing information and copy for email blasts and enewsletters
  • Assists the Executive Director of Communications with writing projects, Y story collections, writing blogs, website copywriting and updating, and public relations opportunities as needed
  • Works with the Marketing/Communications Department to brainstorm, conceptualize and implement marketing campaigns
  • As part of the Marketing/Communications team, helps ensure that Y brand compliance is maintained
  • Completes other duties as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, business or related field. In lieu of a degree, we ask for 2 to 4 years of relevant experience
  • Knowledge of a variety of marketing concepts, platforms and strategies, including content marketing, email, social media and new platform initiatives. Experience developing content and campaigns for social media, email and other digital platforms preferred
  • Photography and videography skills and experience
  • Adobe Creative Suite experience, especially Photoshop and Premiere Pro, preferred as well as Microsoft Office
  • Creative thinker with a basic understanding of storytelling and audience engagement
  • Experience working in content management systems and has experience working with website content
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and manage several projects at once
  • Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills. Proficient writing skills with understanding of grammar, punctuation and style
  • Ability to work with staff at all levels
  • Ability to self-direct and work independently on assigned tasks
  • Understanding of basic graphic design concepts and techniques
  • Program-development experience preferred
  • Nonprofit experience preferred
  • Spanish language speaker a plus
