Job Description - EHS Compliance Specialist

IN A NUTSHELL…

The EHS Compliance Specialist will report to the VP of Operational Compliance and supports the implementation and execution of the organization’s Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Compliance programs including, but not limited to, the assessment, identification, and control of all elements of EHS risk that effect the business. This position is also responsible for our Safety Program, Worker’s Compensation, and compliance in all other areas, including ensuring each facility’s safety, compliance and cleanliness.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Inspects work areas, products, and employee work habits to ensure that everything follows OHSA rules and environmental safety guidelines and makes changes to improve the safety of the workplace when necessary.
  • Supports the implementation and execution the organization’s EHS Compliance programs within assigned areas of the organization.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, and documentation of policies, procedures, internal controls, and training programs to help ensure effective management of risk and compliance with regulatory obligations.
  • Conducts inspections and audits of facilities, processes, internal controls, and training programs within assigned areas of the organization.
  • Supports change management of policies, procedures, internal controls, and training programs as the result of process changes and/or changes to applicable regulatory obligations.
  • Consults with VP of Operational Compliance regarding change management of policies, procedures, internal controls, and training programs.
  • Assists with Issue Management and Incident Response (including Corrective Action Planning) to help ensure timely and effective response and remediation of risk affecting the organization; including but not limited to Regulatory Risk, Health and Safety Risk, Financial Risk, and Reputational Risk.
  • Stays up to date on state and federal workplace safety regulations.
  • Runs informational meetings for employees regarding proper health and safety habits and procedures at work.
  • Identifies health and safety hazards.
  • Recommends ways to improve health and safety in the workplace.
  • Writes up reports detailing health and safety issue.
  • Fields inquiries from employees about proper safety procedures.
  • Responds to on-site emergencies and accidents.
  • Investigates on-the-job accidents and writes up reports.
  • Identifies hazards or faults that caused the accident and devises strategic plan to remedy those problems.
  • Monitors workplace on a daily basis to ensure all activity meets safety compliance.
  • Leads or supports special projects and assignments as required.

 

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS YOU’LL BRING

Required

  • Age 21 or over (Industry Requirement)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Industry Requirement)
  • Valid Government-Issued Photo ID (Industry Requirement)
  • Two (2) years Environmental Health and Safety experience.
  • Exhibits the ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best safety practices.
  • Responds quickly and efficiently to emergency situations.
  • Remains calm in a crisis.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the specific tools, machinery, or equipment used in the specific place of work.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of OHSA and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) guidelines.
  • Exercises caution and alertness always.

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience preferred.
  • Experience working with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) and/or Quality Assurance (QA) systems and tools.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must lift up to 50 unassisted.
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • The ability to perform various physical activities, including lifting, standing, and squatting.
  • The ability to work in extreme weather.
  • The ability to wear personal protective gear during portions of the day
  • Must be able to stand up to 8 hours a day as needed.
  • Must travel to our facilities throughout Florida as needed.
