Job Description

Hybrid - This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, Michigan, three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business.] This position will require travel up to 20%.

The Role

Our General Motors Sustainable Workplaces organization as a whole has a mission to “Bring our unique capacity to transform the environment in which we live and work.” The Renewables and Energy Strategy team mission is “Achieve 100% decarbonized energy supply for GM's operational footprint by 2035, and supporting GM facilities' energy supply as we transition to an all-electric future.” The Energy Strategy Analyst will be responsible for driving activities in support of GM’s renewable energy goals, to find renewable solutions for GM’s Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Your work will be a key part of GM’s Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, Zero Congestion vision.

What You'll Do

  • Drive activities in support of GM's renewable energy goals, including working with third parties to contract renewable power purchase agreements and green tariffs

  • Work cross-functionally with other parts of the organization, including Global Purchasing and Supply Chain, to develop renewable energy solutions that address GM’s scope 3 emissions footprint

  • Engage with external partnerships in the clean energy space to evaluate new technology and other clean energy opportunities to further GM’s emissions reduction efforts. Groups include the Clean Energy Buyers Association, Emissions First Partnership, ZERO grid Initiative, and several others.

  • Support facility decarbonization efforts as they relate to electricity and natural gas (scope 1 and scope 2)

  • Work closely with GM Ventures to identify new technologies that support GM’s Energy Procurement and Renewable energy effort while improving reliability

  • Support global energy subject matter experts with renewable energy goals

  • Work closely with SW communications team to showcase GM's sustainability efforts, including speaking publicly about our team’s work

  • Project management for ad hoc energy projects

  • Prepare presentations for leadership to inform or ask for approval

Additional Job Description

Your Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Energy, Environmental, Civil, Chemical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience

  • 4+ years of experience in engineering or energy field

  • Strategic thinker

  • Experience with data analysis

  • Basic understanding of US energy markets

  • Proficiency with MS Office

  • Strong time and project management skills

  • Ability to take initiative with ambiguous projects

  • Collaborate well with teams

  • Fast learner, capable of quickly gaining domain expertise in the highly complex climate and sustainability markets

  • This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.

  • Familiarity with automotive manufacturing processes preferred
