Job Description - IT Specialist I

As IT Specialist I you will provide technical support, training, cyber-security, and direction to departmental staff using computer equipment and applications on a local area network (LAN). Additionally you will be responsible for: installs, tests, and resolve problems with computer hardware and software, work with databases, develops and maintains Intranet/Internet Web sites, and performs related duties as required. As IT Specialist you will provide technical assistance to computer system users, answer questions or resolve computer problems for clients in person, via telephone or from remote location. Typical issues that need resolving may include computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word-processing, electronic mail, and operating & networking systems.

Tasks:

  • Oversee & Trouble-shoot/Resolve: daily performance of computer systems, printers, projectors/monitors. Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation. Confer with staff, users, and management to establish requirements for new systems or modification
  • Set up IT equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, computers/networks, operating systems, or appropriate software.
  • Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment. Referring major hardware or software problems or defective products to vendors or technicians for service.
  • Maintain records of daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities.
  • Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support.
  • Develop training materials and procedures, or train users in the proper use of hardware or software.

Technology Preferred Skills

  • Backup software - Backup and archival software, including but not limited to Veeam.
  • Configuration management software - Automated installation software; Deployment software; Patch management software
  • Desktop communications software - MS Office, Outlook, Thunderbird, Zimbra, Frontline VPN, RDP
  • Internet directory services software - Active directory software; Domain name system DNS software.
  • Operating system software - Event log monitor software; Microsoft Windows Pre-installation Environment; Operating system monitoring software; Personal computer diagnostic software
  • Windows Server Powershell familiarity & HyperV
  • Web security and/or content filtering
  • Intimate knowledge of email standards and SPAM mitigation
  • Windows Server 2012 & 2019
  • Linux file system skills
  • Hands on experience building/configuring servers and workstations
  • SQL Administration
  • Network cabling, Building Alarm & Fire Alarm System
  • Advanced knowledge of storage mechanisms (SCSI, RAID levels, etc.)
