Summary:

Performs and manages simple and complex experimental/laboratory tasks independently within the Pathology Resource laboratories and tissue banks to provide services or laboratory results for customers/investigators for use in research projects related to the treatment and prevention of cancer and cancer-related diseases in a timely, accurate and dependable manner.


Cover tissue procurement (remnant tissue that is not needed for diagnostic purposes). Handling fresh tissue. Procure, process, distribute & bank. work on pulling frozen specimens from the freezers and preparing frozen section using cryostat to prepare H&E stained slides for QC process. Maintains slide archives, and be able to work individually (late hours) and/or as part of team during regular hours.


Gathers and maintains appropriate data for experiments using the LIMS or Pathology Resource databases and spreadsheets; performs and records quality control and experimental parameters and records of equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.


Prepares other written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed.


Hours of the work might vary but generally the work shift is 8 hours between 7:30 AM and 8:30 PM


Extreme attention to detail and accuracy is required.


Salary range for this position is $51,305 - $65,202 which includes a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications


1. Bachelor’s degree in a biological science; or
2. Associate’s degree in a biological science and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience as a Histotechnician, Histotechnologist I [Roswell Park], Histotechnologist II [Roswell Park], and/or as a Pathology Resource Technician [Roswell Park]; or
3. High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma and the equivalent of four (4) years of full time experience as a Histotechnician, Histotechnologist I [Roswell Park], Histotechnologist II [Roswell Park], and/or as a Pathology Resource Technician [Roswell Park].


NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

The preferred candidate will have their Bachelor’s in biological science, prior Histology and/or tissue handling experience, excellent attention to detail and accuracy, and prior experience working in a research laboratory. They will also have experience with information management systems/databases/computer skills, experience troubleshooting equipment errors and coordinating with vendor/technical support, and prior experience in tracking project progress and multi-tasking.
