Responsibilities

• Conduct Total Cost of Risk (TCOR) reporting by business unit (BU) and meet with risk management teams quarterly to review findings and contribute to the preparation of material for submission to the company’s Board.
• Assist in the development of TCOR Key Performance Indicators for the Saltchuk companies to support risk and safety initiatives and to make the TCOR report relatable and valuable to BU’s.
• Work closely with risk management department to identify, create, and perform periodic updates on Origami fields required to automate TCOR reporting.
• Develop metrics and analytics for deciding risk retention vs financing aimed at identifying insurance program and claim cost savings, including merger and acquisition activity.
• In conjunction with Saltchuk Safety Manager, conduct deep dives into severity and frequency claim data at the BU level to identify areas to focus risk mitigation strategies and lessons learned to promote cost savings.
• Improve processes for collecting and using data sources that serve as a resource for reporting.
• Special claim reporting and robust data analysis for various projects to spot trends and create recommendations for performance improvement.
• Assist in the development of performance indicator reports for Saltchuk’s captive insurance program.
• Reconcile, update and handle the monthly marine claim reports and self-insured retention claim approvals and payments in conjunction with the insurance broker’s claims team. Including tracking and creating reimbursement payments to businesses for their monthly self-insured retention claim payments within the marine program.
• Analyze actuarial forecasts to actual results over a 5–7-year timeframe.
• Work with the Director of Risk Management and the finance team to prepare a self-insured retention marine reserve worksheet at each actuarial report date (4x per year), including the self-insured allocation by BU.
• Collaborate with Aon Marine Claims to migrate their monthly claim report tracking to Origami.
• Assist with premium allocation, invoice payments, policy audit reconciliation, maintaining department SharePoint site, and special insurance and risk management projects as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, or equivalent related field.
• Insurance or Risk Management professional designation preferred.

Experience and Skills

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Very strong Excel skills.
• Project management, vendor management, organizational and planning skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently on multiple assignments and under deadline pressure, ability to set priorities and schedule work, willingness to accept new responsibilities.
• Ability to build and maintain interpersonal relationships, work closely with others inside and outside of the company, cooperate with others in a team environment to support achieving company goals.
• Basic accounting or finance knowledge.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Two to five years of insurance and/or risk management experience.
• Two to three years of RMIS experience (preferably, Origami).
• Proficient with MS Office applications, including SharePoint.
