Job Description - Controls Simulation Engineering Intern

We’re currently on the lookout for a Controls Simulation Engineering Intern to work on the development and integration of electric vehicle performance models with validation simulation tools including Model/Software/Hardware in-the-loop system-level platforms (MIL/SIL/HIL). This person will work with the systems modeling and validation engineers developing and integrating performance models with control software for Battery-electric (BEV) and Fuel-Cell-Electric platforms (FCEV). You will work closely with the controller module owner to gain a deep understanding of the modeling requirements for the different ECUs. The ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities
Assist in the development and integration of detailed plant models of the electric physical systems within the Nikola vehicles using MATLAB/ Simulink environment
Create scripting tools to increase systems performance analysis efficiency
Help writing test specifications and develop verification & validation tests for newly developed control systems
Work with engineers within the electronic and electrical systems organization to translate testing and validation requirements into our performance modeling tools
Gain a detailed knowledge of electric vehicle systems and architecture
Report results and analysis to upper-level management/engineers
Interact with a highly skilled team in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
Currently enrolled in a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling environment
Broad familiarity with vehicle system
Excellent technical communication and documentation skills
The ability to work independently
Must have the ability to deliver succinct written and verbal communication
Must be highly motivated and able to manage multiple assignments concurrently with limited supervision, while driving day-to-day operations
Willingness to grow and be challenged
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with Electrified powertrain systems
Familiarity with control electronics, sensors, and/or actuators
Familiarity with automotive hardware and firmware
Candidates must have current U.S. work authorization or be TN eligible from Mexico or Canada. This position is not eligible for CPT or OPT.
