KCI is looking for bright and highly motivated college students (rising juniors, rising seniors or rising graduate students) to support and learn from our talented and diverse team of engineers, planners, scientists, and construction managers.

The intern will work under the supervision of a technical manager within Land Development to gain exposure to real world projects and daily work tasks. Projects include planning and design of residential, commercial, and industrial land development nationwide. Summer interns will work a 40-hour week, with at least 10 weeks of work required beginning in late May/early June. Interns will get experience in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) platforms, site grading, landscape architecture, roadway design, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, utility design, surveys, and land use planning. Projects scopes begin with conceptual layout and run through construction administration. Depending on the candidate’s skill level and development, duties may include:

• Assist in the development of plans, quantities and cost estimates.
• Complete field surveys or site evaluation visits.
• Conduct entry level engineering, design and drafting.
• Perform administrative or office management duties.
• Make deliveries and pickups of project documents from jurisdictional reviewing agencies in order to learn the processes in site/land development.

• Enrolled in a college Engineering program.
• MicroStation or AutoCAD skills desired but not required.
• No experience required.
• Minimum GPA 3.0
• Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.

• Complete Annual Individual Training Program
• Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
• Coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
• Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
• Complete other duties as required/assigned
• Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target(85% typical)
• Attend bi-weekly(or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
• Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
• Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
• Assist with preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
• Compare field data to base plan
• Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
• Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
• Review and approve shop drawings
