Job Description - Nature and Biodiversity Data Analyst Graduate Intern, Summer/Fall

Job Summary:

About the Role & Program

Since 1995, Disney Conservation has directed $125 million and the expertise of our dedicated teams to support organizations working with diverse communities to save wildlife, inspire conservation action, and protect the planet. Their work has supported projects spanning across six continents, all five oceans, and more than half the countries (120) in the world. The intern will play a vital role in these efforts! This team offers opportunities for exposure and learning from a corporate team and its internal and external partners including leading organizations in the field, as well as with Disney's own sustainability experts and field conservation researchers through data analysis projects, and occasional special events. It's an exciting time to learn and grow in this evolving field!

If hired, you will report to the Program Manager, Strategic Philanthropy.

What You Will Do

You will support Disney's data analysis, visualization, and reporting to contribute to the voluntary and regulatory disclosures associated with sustainability, nature, and biodiversity. Additionally, you will also assist and support the operational logistics of the Disney Conservation Fund. Every day brings new opportunities for professional development, such as:

  • Supporting the development, implementation, and ongoing improvement of data management, processing, analysis, and reporting to evaluate the impact of our operations and philanthropic investments through the Disney Conservation Fund
  • Collaborating with key partners to support data solutions and systems to streamline impact assessment and adaptive management to benefit our nature and biodiversity strategies, business priorities, and storytelling efforts
  • Supporting the systems and processes related to our Disney Planet Possible commitment and the Disney Conservation Fund and associated operational efforts- including philanthropy governance, communications, content, and engagement
  • Supporting efforts to aggregate and submit data to advise annual CSR, biodiversity-related reporting, and disclosure expectations for partners and shareholders

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Coursework and degree program in information management, data analysis, reporting, or visualization, or related fields
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with data evaluation and measurement
  • Stellar organization and time management skills, prioritizing multiple tasks to deliver quality work within an established timeframe
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a positive outlook, and eager to learn
  • Experience contributing to high-functioning teams, taking initiative, anticipating needs, and capable of changing the course of action as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced presentation and facilitation abilities
  • Validated scientific publications
  • Interest in environmental responsibility and sustainability initiatives
  • Experience with relevant technology, coding languages, and analytics platforms, such as R, Python, SPSS or SAS, and Geospatial Information Systems (GIS)
  • Experience with the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation or Miradi software

Education

Currently enrolled as a Graduate level student, or graduated within six (6) months of application submission, with a master's degree in business, engineering, environmental science & management, forestry, ecology, sustainability, communications, computer science, data analytics, or a related field

Eligibility Requirements & Program Information

Candidates for this opportunity MUST meet all of the below requirements:

  • Be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) before participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within 6 months at the time of application posting OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Internship
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Have not completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or Disney College Program

Additional Information

  • The approximate dates of this internship are June 2024 – January 2025
  • Fully available to work full-time hours (approximately 40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship
  • Able to provide own housing and transportation for work in the Orlando, FL area
