A Staff Engineer works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Plays a leading role within the team to design and implement major functional changes to existing or new software systems and executes sound judgement on when to build new solutions and when to extend existing solutions. Leads collaboratively and shares their knowledge to help other engineers and team members to be more productive. Can communicate complicated concepts simply. A Staff Engineer's work is exemplary, and they are a role model for their team, driving the team's best practices and setting the standards for quality. Their software contributions in production are the model for highly available, low latency, and efficient software. Documentation in code, on technical designs, and operations provide clarity to any engineer interacting with their software. A Staff Engineer coaches and mentors up to Sr. Software Engineer level and provides input to leadership on development needs and growth opportunities for team members.
Areas of Responsibility Plays a key role in overseeing the technical aspects of our projects, from conception to delivery. Will be responsible for ensuring that our projects are completed on time and to the required quality standards and company policy. Will work closely with our team of developers, designers, and project managers to deliver successful solutions that meet our clients' needs.
Responsible for defining and implementing technical architecture and design, and for ensuring that code is developed to the highest standards. They will review and approve technical designs, code, and test plans, and will identify and manage technical risks and issues, providing solutions to mitigate them.
Be a hands-on leader, managing and mentoring a team of developers. Will be responsible for providing technical guidance and support to the team, and for ensuring that development best practices are followed. They will lead by example, demonstrating their expertise in one or more programming languages and web development frameworks, and will work collaboratively with the team to resolve technical challenges.
The ability to work well with others is a critical requirement for this position, and the ideal candidate should be proactive in seeking out opportunities for collaboration with teams and partners. Job Requirements / Skills Essential/Required Degree or equivalent experience in Software Systems Engineering
Broad knowledge and experience in managing personnel, projects and deliverables
Ability to communicate effectively as part of a team
Fluent in English at an intermediate/advanced level
Expertise in complex problem solving, analytical and critical thinking skills
Experience building web applications in MERN (Mongo, Express, React and Nodejs), MEAN (Mongo, Express, Angular and Nodejs)
Expertise building web applications in Java Spring Boot
Experience with JPA/Hibernate
Experience building event driven architecture
Expertise in implementing scalable, distributed and highly available systems on AWS using ECS, EKS, EC2 and Serverless technology (Lambda, ECS, SQS, SNS)
Experience working and delivering in an Agile Scrum environment
Broad knowledge and experience in proficient understanding of relational databases (Ie., Oracle / SQL Server / MySQL / NoSQL)
Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
Detailed oriented and highly organized
Energetic, shows passion and is vested to the project
Desirable/Preferred Broad knowledge and experience in Messaging Frameworks (RabbitMQ, ActiveMQ, SNS, SQS, Kafka, etc)
Experience in cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Experience using Docker, Kubernetes or rkt
Experience in DevOps (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bamboo, Travis for CI/CD)
