Assistant Finance Director - Government | 2-Month Contract | Hybrid (3-4 Days WFH)

The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Assistant Finance Director to join a government department on a 2-month contract. This role offers a highly flexible hybrid working arrangement (3-4 days WFH) and the chance to step into a senior leadership position within a complex environment.

The Role

Reporting into the Finance Director, this position will support the leadership of the finance function, ensuring strong financial governance, reporting, and operational performance. You will play a key role in overseeing team outputs, providing strategic insight, and maintaining high standards across financial management.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Finance Director in leading the finance function
• Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes
• Ensure compliance with government frameworks, policies, and controls

• Drive improvements across financial processes and reporting

About the Candidate

• Proven experience in a senior finance leadership role within a complex organisation
• Strong technical accounting and financial management expertise
• Experience operating within government or similarly regulated environments highly regarded
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
• Ability to quickly add value in a short-term contract environment
