Job Description - Payroll Officer

Your Opportunity:

You will be joining a tight knit business on an initial six-month temporary contract, with a likely extension. You'll be part of an experienced and collaborative finance team in a rapidly growing and forever changing business.

You will have flexibility to start your day between 7 and 8:30am finishing accordingly to accommodate early risers.

You'll take ownership of the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring smooth, compliant, and timely payroll processing across the business. You'll be a trusted point of contact for payroll queries and work closely with HR and Finance.

What you will do:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for the assigned region, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery.
  • Maintain up-to-date payroll records in line with legal and company standards.
  • Process employee life cycle changes, including on boarding, terminations, leave, and pay adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Awards, enterprise agreements, tax, superannuation/KiwiSaver, and leave legislation.
  • Prepare payroll reports and support month-end and year-end payroll activities.
  • Respond to payroll queries and provide advice on pay, leave, and entitlements.
  • Collaborate with regional teams and build strong working relationships to support operational needs.

Experience required:

  • Minimum of 5 years end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Strong understanding of Australian payroll legislation, modern awards, and enterprise agreements
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain payroll matters clearly to non-finance staff
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a high-volume environment
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
