Senior Payroll Officer - Local Council | Sydney | 6-Month Contract | Hybrid (2 Days WFH)

The Opportunity

We are partnering with a Sydney-based local council seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Officer to join their team on an initial 6-month contract. This role offers a hybrid working model (2 days WFH) and the opportunity to work within a supportive and structured environment.

The Role

This position will take ownership of end-to-end payroll processing within a complex organisation, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery. You will play a key role in maintaining payroll integrity while supporting continuous improvement across processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and process end-to-end payroll across a large and complex workforce
• Ensure payroll is delivered accurately and in line with relevant legislation and awards
• Manage payroll queries and provide support to internal stakeholders
• Maintain employee records and ensure data integrity within payroll systems
• Assist with reconciliations, reporting, and month-end processes
• Support process improvements and system enhancements where required

About You

• Proven experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a complex organisation
• Strong understanding of payroll legislation, awards, and compliance requirements
• High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and deadlines
• Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with a range of stakeholders
• Experience within local government highly desirable, though not essential
