Tax Consultant

Tax Consultant / 12 to 18 Month Contract
3 days in office / 2 days WFH (can be Sydney based)

You will join a global business with a strong Brisbane presence, in a contract opportunity within a high-calibre tax team. Given the scale of the organisation, there may also be longer-term opportunities that open over time.

This position has arisen due to a maternity leave cover requirement and will run for an initial 12 to 18 months. There is also a strong handover period in place, with the incumbent remaining in the business for the next three months, ensuring a smooth transition and plenty of support on commencement.

The opportunity

As part of the Financial Control and Tax team, you will support a broad range of tax compliance, reporting, and advisory activities across the business. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with solid tax compliance experience who enjoys working across a varied remit in a large and complex organisation.

You will be involved in:

• Supporting ongoing tax compliance obligations across the business
• Preparing and assisting with GST returns
• Managing the annual FBT return
• Supporting the income tax return process with external advisors
• Assisting with tax effect accounting requirements
• Supporting controls testing and broader tax governance activities
• Responding to ad hoc tax queries from business stakeholders
• Assisting with tax audits and tax-related projects
• Managing tax administration, including advisor purchase orders, engagement registers, invoices, and monthly accruals
• Monitoring the tax mailbox and supporting day-to-day coordination across the function
• Contributing to process improvement and automation initiatives

About you

You will be someone who can step into a busy environment, pick things up quickly, and build credibility with the team and broader business. You will bring a strong grounding in tax compliance and be comfortable working across multiple systems and stakeholders.

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience in tax or accounting, ideally within a large or multinational business
• A good working knowledge of tax compliance, including GST, FBT, and income tax
• The ability to navigate different ERP systems and work across large, sometimes complex datasets
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• A high level of attention to detail, organisation, and critical thinking
• A willingness to learn the business and become a valued part of the team
• CA / CPA / CTA completed or in progress
• A degree in Commerce, Business, Finance, or Law
