Role

The Careers and Transitions Coordinator is a member of the Student Wellbeing Team and responsible to the Student Wellbeing and Programs Team. The Careers and Transition Coordinator is responsible for leading staff to achieve the college goals, priorities and targets appropriate to Later and Middle Years as well Post-secondary education. Likewise the Careers and Transitions Coordinator is responsible to their area of responsibility as set out in the College Strategic and Implementation Plans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general and specific counselling for students at Years 7 ¿ 12.
  • Lead staff in achieving school goals related to Student Pathways as identified in the College Strategic & Annual Implementation Plan.
  • Evaluate the whole school approach to career education against the Victorian Careers Curriculum Framework for Years 7 ¿ 12
  • Complete all DEECD accountability requirements for MIPS, Year 12 Destinations and Student Exit procedures.
  • Organise and implement the full aspect of the Careers/MIPS Program including student counselling, guest speakers, excursions and campus tours.
  • Work with members of the Student Wellbeing and Programs Team to ensure students at risk are supported.
  • Make presentations at year level assemblies and parent information evenings on all career related issues.
  • Work with the Student Wellbeing Team to develop and deliver welfare programs to groups of students and year levels as guided by student data and the AIP.
  • Assist and advise the school in establishing and maintaining up to date resources appropriate to careers pathways.
  • Coordinate the Year 10 Work Experience program
  • Distribute relevant information to students regarding apprenticeships, traineeships and job placements.
  • Foster relationships between the school, tertiary institutions and local employers to investigate Vocational Education Programs which may be relevant to the school.
  • Consult with parents to help them assist students in their career decisions.
  • Increase the awareness of students in all areas related to their chosen career path including VCE, VET and tertiary courses.
  • Attend network and relevant professional development activities to ensure up to date and `expert¿ advice is provided to the whole school community.
  • Foster relationships between the school, TAFE colleges, tertiary institutions and local employers to investigate Vocational Education Programs which may be relevant to the school.
  • Consult with parents to help them assist students in their child¿s pathway.
  • Attend network and relevant professional development activities to ensure up to date and `expert¿ advice is provided to the whole school community.
  • Provide reports for the school newsletter on youth services.

VIT LANTITE

To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.

Location Profile

Lalor Secondary College is a co-education school for students in Years 7 to 12.
