This position is part-time (2-3 days per week).

Department: Fundraising and Marketing

Location: Newcastle NSW – but role could also be undertaken remotely

Reports to: Content and Communications Manager

Direct Reports: Nil

Context

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Australia is an expanding charity with a strong vision and passionate workforce. Jesus is at the core of all we do here at CAP. We exist to inspire and equip a movement of churches within Australia to walk alongside those in financial distress. CAP provides the training, tools, support and encouragement churches need to effectively walk alongside those in financial distress.

The Fundraising and Marketing team exists to build the financial capacity of CAP through the development of strategy aligned to our goals, initiatives and targets allowing us to attract, maintain and deepen partnerships and income streams.

Purpose

The Communications Specialist plays a vital role in working within the Fundraising and Marketing team communicating CAP’s vision, mission, progress and ongoing need to all stakeholders.

The role includes producing both internal and external communications across several platforms including socials, e-comms, direct mail and the website. The role will utilise your skills in creative development and copywriting.

Role

The Communications Specialist is responsible for assisting the Content and Communications Manager develop the internal and external communications of the charity.

This role will suit someone who has recently completed a Communications Degree and is looking for a role that will give them exposure across all fields of communication including marketing, internal and external communications, content writing and social and digital media.

Accountabilities

Copywriting and content creation

  • Developing, managing and distributing content for internal and external audiences under the lead of the Content and Communications Manager.
  • Collaborating in the development and implementation of communication and marketing campaigns to increase brand awareness and drive engagement.
  • Maintaining content, photo and video libraries for use throughout the organisation.
  • Receiving and responding to communications and marketing enquiries.
  • Ensure the integrity of the message is retained across all channels by proofing and undertaking quality control measures.
  • Research, write and publish content across print, media and digital platforms.
  • Work closely with the Digital Marketing Manager to help distribute content and measure it’s reach and effectiveness.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Responsible for identifying, tracking, recording and interviewing potential participants (and other stakeholders such as Church Leaders and Money Mentors) who are suitable for any campaigns and appeals where impact stories are needed, including video production projects, written copy and fundraising dinner live interviews.
  • Responsible for working with external videographer and photographer to capture participant and church stories.

  • % of successfully completed projects to agreed deadlines

Person Specification

Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Communications and/or Marketing or equivalent industry experience. (This role would suit a new graduate or someone or someone just starting out in communications)

Skills/Abilities

  • An ‘ideas’ person with a keen attention to detail
  • Strong analytical problem-solving skills
  • A creative thinker who can craft messages for different audiences
  • Developed writing and editing skills across print, media and digital platforms
  • A knowledge of digital marketing principles
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams
  • A proactive and adaptable attitude with a high level of initiative
