About the Role
Administrative and Events Officer (Education and Outreach) at OPTIMA, based in the School of Mathematics and Statistics at The University of Melbourne, plays a key role in promoting the Centre’s education and outreach initiatives.

The officer will collaborate with the Business and Operations Manager to deliver educational programs and enhance the Centre’s visibility across schools, government, industry, and the broader community. This role involves organising Centre events. This position is integral to connecting OPTIMA’s world-class research in industrial optimisation with diverse external audiences.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in delivering the Centre’s Outreach and Education events and Centre-wide events, including project and event management, and promotion of events and event logistics.
  • Attend meetings and take minutes for the sub-committees and the Executive committee.
  • Promote OPTIMA research to the general public, government, industry and schools, using established channels within each of the partner universities.
  • Deliver on the actions developed by the Centre’s sub-committees to support the Centre’s vision, mission and strategic objectives.
  • Assist in coordinating the Centre’s outreach initiatives to promote the Centre to schools, policymakers, industry, peak bodies and the general public, including at the University of Melbourne and Monash University open days.
  • Organise, administer, and attend the Centre events, including the Centre’s weekly Wednesday seminar series.
  • Other duties as directed to ensure the success of the Centre, which includes email correspondence, administering changes to Centre membership and assisting the OPTIMA Business and Operations Manager with making updates to the OPTIMA website.

Who We Are Looking For
You will excel in this role if you have a passion for supporting and promoting educational programs. You will bring your excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders including schools, government, industry, and the wider community.

You will also have:

  • A relevant degree with subsequent relevant experience in an educational institution or an equivalent combination of relevant experience , educational training, or extensive experience.
  • Proven ability and experience to contribute to the ongoing development of the education and outreach programs and strategies.
  • Proven e xperience in program or events management.
  • Demonstrated appreciation of or affinity with STEM education programs and activities and a commitment to delivering quality service to event participants.

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University.
