About the role
As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a pivotal role involves examining, assessing, and approving applications and plans, inspecting, and auditing establishments, investigating complaints and disease notifications, and advising on pest control and health promotion activities.
- Application Management: Examine, assess, and approve applications, plans, registrations, renewals, and transfers of registration under the Public Health and Wellbeing Act 2008 and Residential Tenancy Act 1997. Ensure receipt of required forms and fees and entry into computerized records.
- Inspections and Audits: Inspect and audit registered establishments, serving Notices of Contravention as required to ensure compliance with relevant Acts, Regulations, and Codes of Practice.
- Complaint Investigation: Investigate and evaluate complaints of alleged nuisances or health dangers, taking appropriate remedial actions including issuing notices for abatement.
- Legal Proceedings: Recommend necessary legal proceedings, prepare legal briefs for prosecution, and attend court as an informant on behalf of the Council.
- Disease Control: Investigate infectious disease notifications and provide advice and information on communicable disease control.
- Waste Treatment: Examine and approve plans for proposed domestic waste treatment plants and conduct inspections to ensure compliance with the Environment Protection Act 1970.
- Pest Control: Advise the community on pest control measures.
- Health Strategies: Assist with formulating and implementing strategies from the Council's Municipal Public Health Plan.
- Health Promotion: Develop, implement, and monitor health promotion activities as required.
About you
- Strong administrative skills within a local government context.
- High level of customer service.
- In-depth knowledge of environmental health within local government.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher).
- University degree in Environmental Health and/or Health Services qualification and relevant experience.
- Able to pass National Police Check
- Must have FULL WORKING RIGHTS in Australia
