Job Description - Forest and Fire Operations Officer - Urgent Hire

We are looking for a competitive Forest and Fire Operations Officer to join our dynamic team at Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action in East Gippsland, VIC.

Team members operate within work centres and implement a wide range of operational tasks and fire prevention activities. This position has a strong focus on emergency response and may involve being deployed across the state for periods up to seven days, for both emergency response and planned burning activities. These activities require a high level of fitness, as the work environment can be steep and remote from vehicles

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications

  • Experience working in bushfire response or forest operations is desirable.
  • Understanding of application of safe work practices including awareness of regulations and codes of practice and safety documentation systems is desirable.

Applicants must hold a current manual Drivers Licence (conditions A, I & V not acceptable for employment).

This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is Cann River, VIC.

Preferred candidates will be required to undertake pre-employment screening, including a Declaration and Consent form and a National Police Check and meet the medical and fitness requirements outlined in the position description.  Recruitment is subject to the prospective employee confirming their vaccination status as up to date (3 doses) or providing evidence that they are medically exempt. Successful applicants will be required to successfully complete the DELWP General Firefighter accreditation.

To be eligible for appointment to this role, applicants will possess corresponding work rights for the advertised employment period. Appointment to an ongoing position is only available to an Australian/New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.
