Job Description - Paralegal

Location: Newcastle and/or Central Coast Full-time Ongoing opportunity Grade 3/4 - $79,032 - $86,539 p.a. + superannuation and annual leave loading Flexible work practices including flexible working hours, 35-hour week and flex leave Your role Hunter Central Coast Child and family District Unit (HCC CFDU) provides support to Non-Government Funded Service Providers who case manage children and young people in the care of the Minister. The primary purpose of the role is to provide paralegal services and support to the HCC CFDU Court team. Tasks such as assisting our court team and Funded Service Providers in preparing guardianship and restoration applications, affidavits, care plans, subpoenas and subpoena schedules, Assessment Applications and s82 and s76 reports in the Children’s Court of NSW for children and young persons in out-of-home care. The role will require liaising with Non-Government Funded Service Provider teams and reviewing large volumes of casework material in order to assist with drafting court documents and correspondence in accordance with the legislative requirements under the Children and Young Persons (Care and Protection) Act 1998. You will also be required to assist with reviewing and processing Victims of Crime applications, coordination of audits and follow up regarding Notices of Decision. This will involve liaising with DCJ legal officers and providing advice and assistance regarding claims against the state, wills and estates, organising trust accounts with the Trustee and Guardian and will also include performing various administrative responsibilities. Hunter Central Coast Child and Family District Unit is split over two locations – Gosford and Newcastle. This role can be primarily based in either office. The successful candidate will be required to work from the other office on occasion, depending on demand, team meetings etc. As a Paralegal You Will

  • Provide paralegal services and administrative support to Legal Officers, including research, analysis and provision of written information for consideration by Legal Officers for inclusion in briefs and other legal documents.
  • Manage databases and systems in accordance with standards and guidelines, by creating, storing, retrieving and tracking files to ensure accuracy and security of information.
  • Perform data entry and data reviews ensuring accuracy and relevance of legal data and documentation recorded, to assist in the monitoring and analysis of processes and performance indicators.
  • Utilise relevant legal databases and systems to generate reports that enable accurate, relevant analysis and reporting of the team’s services.
  • Contribute to project work as directed by the Director and/or senior staff.

  • Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012
