Job Description - Environmental Advisor

About us

Abergeldie is a locally owned contractor with 30 years’ industry experience in Australia and New Zealand. We design and deliver projects in the Water, Bridges, Transport, Underground, Energy and Remediation industry sectors. Projects include dams, bridges, tunnels, water and wastewater treatment process facilities, rail infrastructure, mining infrastructure, electrical substations, marine works and pipeline rehabilitation: the complex infrastructure needed to build better communities.

About the opportunity

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced Environmental Advisor to join our team in Sydney, supporting a number of major infrastructure projects in NSW.

As an Environmental Advisor, you will collaborate with our project teams to develop and implement management plans, environmental controls, and strategies on-site to ensure we meet all regulatory and legal obligations. Day to day, you will:

  • Provide operational environmental and sustainability guidance, consistency, and compliance across projects in NSW to drive a culture of best practice.
  • Develop, support and review construction environmental management plans, environmental risk assessments and project sustainability management plans. 
  • Conduct risk assessments, inspections, and audits and investigate incidents. 
  • Identify and effectively manage sustainability and environmental risk management controls and ensure we meet all our obligations. 
  • Provide environmental and sustainability technical input to support the tender process.
  • Continually educate and build our project teams knowledge of environmental requirements. 
  • Liaise with the client and government bodies on environmental and sustainability matters.
  • Establish, monitor and report on key sustainability and environmental performance objectives and standards.

This role can be based in Regents Park or in Vaucluse with travel to sites as required.

What you’ll bring to the team

  • Relevant qualifications in Environmental Science or related discipline with a strong knowledge of environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience in a similar role within construction with experience working on Infrastructure projects.
  • Practical experience working with ISO 14001. 
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels.
  • The ability to negotiate, influence, and engage effectively with stakeholders to drive project success and ensure compliance with environmental standards and expectations.
