About us

The Aurenne Group is a private company who acquired the historic Mt Ida - Bottle Creek gold field, 80 km west of Menzies in 2019.

At Aurenne we strive to build a quality operation that is ‘special’ where being part of the ‘Team’ is an important component of the work experience. Accordingly, we provide our Team with the tools they need to succeed - whether it be ‘new equipment for new projects’, or building an airstrip to facilitate easy site access, or even construction of our new Forest Cabin Village at Mt. Ida which is truly second to none.

About the role

We currently have 2 x RC drill rigs operating in our exploration department. One is a UDR1000, and the other is a Hydco 350. Due to an expansion in the exploration department, and the acquisition of another rig or potentially 2, we are looking for expression of interests from both drillers and offsiders to join our team.

We are looking for qualified drillers with RC and diamond experience to lead each rig and oversee the team consisting of 2 x offsiders. We are also looking for experienced offsiders to assist the drillers with their samples and getting meters.

This role will start once we take delivery of the rigs – in potentially in 6-8 weeks. This position will be on a 2:1 roster or 8:6 roster, 12-hour shifts -both day and night shifts are a requirement, and this is a fulltime permanent position.

You will work in small teams, so individuals need to be able to maintain respect, have a calm disposition and be able to work together as a team.

Driller’s duties will include but are not limited to:

• Respecting the local communities in which we work.

• Complying with all Aurenne policies and procedures.

• Identifying the risks in your work area and using the correct controls.

• Lead and supervise the team in the safe usage of the drill rig.

• Thorough regular inspections, identify potential problems and hazards, introduce control measures.

• Responsible for the productivity and efficiency of the rig, its safe operation, and the safety of the crew.

• Responsible for progress of the hole, sample recovery and care of the sample until taken over by the Geologist.

• Allocate work tasks appropriate to crew member skills.

• Maintain and care for all companies plant onsite.

• Provide regular and concise reports on all daily activities, both written and oral.

• Liaise with employees and supervisors in a professional manner.

Driller's Offsider duties:

  • Complying with all Aurenne policies and procedures.
  • Identifying the risks in their work area and using the correct controls.
  • Assisting in routine services and maintenance as directed.
  • Assisting in service and maintenance of ancillary equipment.
  • Correct use of communication equipment.
  • Dust control around drills and drill sites.
  • Clearing all tracks of stakes, rocks, debris and items that may damage vehicle tyres.
  • Ensure that Safety Data Sheets (SDS) are followed for chemicals on rig/site.
  • Place all spares neatly in their correct storage areas. Drilling Offsider must be able to assist in the loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Must be competent in the operation and driving techniques of trucks and 4WD vehicles.
  • Manage all vehicle pre-start checks.
  • Ensure drill site is laid out to company standards.
  • Prepare the next drill site prior to the completion of the drill hole.
  • Any other reasonable request by the Drilling Supervisor or Exploration Manager.

About you:

You will have reasonable mechanical and dexterity skills and can demonstrate effective communication with people from all walks of life. These skills will be strong in both oral and written language. You will have a strong work ethic, always striving for excellence and ensuring the safety of yourself and the team. You will have experience in working 12-hour days, outside in remote locations, in often dusty and noisy environments at extremes of temperature.

Essential skills, attributes, qualifications and licences:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a similar FIFO role.

• Certificate III in Drilling Operations (Drillers only)

• National Police Clearance.

• Valid Heavy Rigid Driver's License.

• Ability to pass pre-employment medical and D&A screen.

• Full Australian working rights.

Desirable skills, attributes, qualifications and licences:

• Work safely at heights.

• Senior First Aid Certificate.

• A heavy manual labouring background is highly desired.
