Senior Advisor – Environment
The Role
The position is responsible for assisting the Superintendent Environment in the application,
implementation, review, monitoring, and continual improvement of the Mining Environmental Management System (EMS) including ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental obligations (internal and external), whilst promoting sustainable ecological management with daily operational activities and providing support to the Manager – Sustainability with regulatory approvals and permitting processes.
The Key Responsibilities
Provides subject matter advice, environmental services, and coaching on the application of
environmental policy and standards on site.
Monitors Commonwealth and State legislation for relevant changes and risks.
Champions the development and implementation of the environment management system and governance programs to ensure the operation maintains compliance with applicable environmental obligations and minimizes environmental harm and risk.
Implements and monitors the environmental monitoring and reporting program.
Development of the environmental management plans and strategies and the implementation
of associated programs and activities.
Assists with the annual strategic and tactical planning for the environmental function, facilitating the development and implementation of performance metrics, work programs, and operating and capital budgets.
Promotes and enhances the company’s reputation and relationship with the Government regulators, local landholders, and other stakeholders through positive consultation and proactive engagement.
Supervises and coaches’ direct reports providing career development, planning, and pathways.
Assist with approvals, permits, and feasibility studies as required.
General Requirements:
Act as nominated point of contact for the designated department, providing support on the management of environmental risks and compliance with environmental obligations.
Attends meetings as required to facilitate duties.
Provide emergency response for injured fauna, spills, or other environmental incidents.
Commit to maintaining health, safety, and security standards and principles, both within own
workplace and through the identification of potential risks throughout Evolution.
Demonstrate behaviors aligned with the Evolution Mining values.
The Requirements
Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or other relevant scientific discipline.
Recognised expertise in water management, waste management, incident investigation and
environmental management (regulatory).
Minimum 5 years experience in a mine site environmental role.
Significant practical environmental and stakeholder experience in mining, construction or
engineering environment.
Knowledge of environmental approvals requirements and strategies.
Working knowledge of relevant environmental legislation, including experience and
understanding of the NSW and Commonwealth regulatory approvals system.
Experience in establishing, implementing, and managing Environmental Management Systems
(EMS) and frameworks, standards, audits, and systems (ISO14001).
Mine rehabilitation.
NGERs data collection and reporting.
