Job Description - Senior Support Worker

About the role

The Senior Support Worker position is part of Nadrasca Community, which comprises Community Living, Outreach and Day Programmes responsible for maintaining a home environment that encourages independence and empowers individuals to actively participate in their life. The support provided by Nadrasca staff encourages residents to experience opportunities while networking within the broader community.

The Senior Support Worker is responsible for contributing to the planning and leading support for people with disabilities within their home and in the community to enable them to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives.

The Senior Support Worker contributes to maintaining an environment that empowers people with a disability. In this position, a Senior Support Worker will assist the House Supervisor and is responsible for acting in the House Supervisor role when required.

This role is a part of Community Living i.e. residential services and requires the incumbent to work shifts (day and / or night) as per the weekly roster.

About you

You are an experienced disability support worker who may have leadership aspirations, with a passion for supporting people with disability to achieve their goals.

Qualifications and Experience -

  • Certificate IV Disability or equivalent sector experience is required.
  • Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
  • Demonstrated ability to actively support people with disability in daily living and personal care skills.
  • Ability to undertake and oversee a range of household duties, including meal preparation and household cleaning to a high standard.
  • Must be able to work shifts that may involve weekends, morning and evening work, and sleepovers.
  • Intermediate to advanced IT skills, including competency with client databases and use of the Microsoft Office Suite, email, web browsing and video conferencing platforms.
  • Current Victorian Driver’s Licence

Skill and Attributes:

  • A demonstrated understanding, knowledge, and commitment to the rights of people with disability.
  • Commitment to advocating for, and empowering, people with a disability and assisting them to live a life of their choosing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to express views constructively, listen to other points of view and negotiate appropriate solutions to problems.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision and use judgement to appropriately escalate issues.
  • Sound financial management skills in relation to the required tasks.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to service excellence.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • A positive attitude to continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritise and organise time to ensure achievement of required outcomes.
  • Ability to exercise sensitivity and maintain strict confidentiality.

A NDIS Workers Screening Check and Working with Children Check are mandatory requirements of this role. If you do not already hold these, you will be required to obtain them prior to employment.
