Job Description - Cultural Liaison Officer Identified , Queensland Corrective Services

TARGETED VACANCY - This position has been identified as a position to be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person because of a number of factors, including the gross over representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders in custody. It is an occupational requirement that this position be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person as permitted and arguable under Sections 25, 104, and 105 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

Essential requirements:

• Ability to contribute to and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Current knowledge and interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues, trends and practices and their impact on criminal behaviour with a drive for continual learning and professional development.
• Proven ability to establish and maintain stakeholder relationships (particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations) including where the working relationship is at distance, in order to promote positive service outcomes.
• Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to maintain effective internal and external professional partnerships.
• Self-awareness and ability to be a positive representative of QCS and ability to role model behaviours and attitudes in alignment with QCS values and priorities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to produce written reports, represent QCS and contribute within forums and meetings.
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of issues and information.
• The incumbent may be required to travel on official business and the possession of a C class licence is required.
• The incumbent will be required to undertake professional development and training relevant to the role as required.
• A suitability pool may be created and utilised for recurring vacancies in the next twelve months.
