Senior Legal Counsel

What you’ll do: Provide strategic and technically sound legal advice to enable WaterNSW to assess legal risks and make sound decisions on complex contractual and commercial matters. Partner with various internal stakeholders through the provision of advice and support in relation to legal and commercial issues, including project delivery. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts for WaterNSW, including IT/software and data sharing agreements, construction, professional services and other procurement contracts and a variety of inter-governmental contracts including funding and service agreements. Advise WaterNSW on project related legal issues, contract interpretation and contractual disputes. Contribute to the development and maintenance of a range of contract templates that support the commercial, operational, and strategic objectives of WaterNSW, and assist in the implementation of the templates across the business including training key staff. What we are looking for: Tertiary qualifications in law [with at least 5+ years’ post qualification experience working either in house and/or with a top tier law firm.] Admission as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory (currently holding, or eligible to hold a NSW practising certificate) Pro-active, agile mindset and strong problem solving and influencing skills. Ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment. Significant experience in drafting and negotiating a variety of complex commercial contracts. Experience in advising on legal and commercial risks. Demonstrated ability to prioritise workload independently in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework applicable to a State Owned Corporation or other Government entity is desirable but not essential.
