Job Description - Principal (Level )

The School: Dunwich State School is located on Minjerribah/Tjerrangeri (North Stradbroke Island). There are three First Nations clan groups that comprise Quandamooka Country. These clan groups are the Nughi of Moorgumpin (Moreton Island), the Nunukul and Gorenpul people.

Dunwich is located within the department's Metropolitan South Region on an island approximately 30kms off the East Coast of Brisbane. Minjerribah/Tjerrangeri (North Stradbroke Island) is home to around 2156 residents. This island is bounded by transport timetables which impact staff and student's accessibility to the island and mainland. There are two regular ferry services that operate from the island, however these are not 24 hour services. The current school's enrolment is 147 with approximately 44% identifying as First Nation students. There is no High School located on the island, therefore, the majority of older students travel to the mainland for their secondary education. Dunwich State School sits within the heart of an Aboriginal community. Quandamooka Country has a strong cultural presence with natural beauty that surrounds our school. This is reflective from the established Goori Group, working alongside Elders, and other community organisations, which help shape and inform the operations of the school's decision making processes. The school caters for students and their families from the three major towns of Point Lookout, Amity Point and Dunwich. Each town has its own subculture which influences the diversity of the school culture and learning.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Lead a professional and committed team to deliver strong educational and wellbeing outcomes for Dunwich State School students.
