Job Description - Senior Policy Officer

The Education Policy and Reform Division in the Department of Education is seeking excellent strategic thinkers to fill a number of Senior Policy Officer positions. Two roles are ongoing and three are fixed term (one until 5/1/2025 and two until 30/6/2025). All positions are full time, although part-time arrangements will be considered. The roles would suit outstanding policy thinkers with strong communication, interpersonal and project management skills. You will provide high quality analysis and strategic policy advice in relation to the Victorian school education system. The positions will be part of a friendly, high performing team located in the Department of Education central office at 200 Victoria Parade, East Melbourne, with hybrid work arrangements in place.

This role requires:

  • the ability to deal with complex concepts and analytical challenges comfortably and express these concepts through well-developed written communication
  • policy skills to undertake policy analysis focused on the system levers that drive quality school-based education
  • effective relationship building, influencing and collaboration skills to ensure policy recommendations are informed by diverse perspectives and are supported by our key partners
  • the ability to use project management concepts to manage deliverables and risks, and adjust to shifting priorities while taking initiative and accountability for one's own work
  • use of written, verbal and visual language to convey and obtain information, insights and ideas that is compelling, persuasive and appropriate to the audience.
