It is located on the south coast of Western Australia adjoining the Southern Ocean, where it extends for approximately 250 km. It is bordered by the South West region on the west and extends 200 km north where it meets the Wheatbelt region. The Great Southern health region is made up of two geographic health districts, the Central Great Southern and Lower Great Southern. Its largest city is Albany, which is located 418 km from Perth.
