Location: Melbourne | Northern Metropolitan Job type: Full time Organisation: The Royal Women's Hospital Salary: Salary not specified Occupation: Nursing Reference: 25839 Full time and part time hours  Fixed term hours available till 30 June 2024 and 1 July 2025  $106,834 - $110,432  salary/range (pro-rata for part time) salary packaging + super + 5 weeks annual leave About The Elective Surgery Access Service at the Royal Women’s Hospital The Elective Surgery Access Service is a comprehensive department incorporating all aspects involved in surgical intervention for patients. The following departments are included: Preadmission, Surgical Pre Admission Clinic, Elective Surgery Booking Office, Anaesthetic Department, Acute Pain Services, Operating Suite and the Day Surgery Unit. The elective surgery access service provides women with a thorough and holistic health assessment within a streamlined and efficient system. The surgical journey ensures that on admission women are well informed about their planned procedure, their stay in hospital, and that they are medically fit for surgery. About the role The role of the Elective Surgery Access Nurse (ESAN) is to provide a streamlined approach to the pre admission process and establish a central point of contact with continuity of care for the patient waiting for elective surgery. The ESAN works both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to assess the health and social status of patients preoperatively, ensures patients are well informed and prepared for their elective surgery procedure, and schedules patients for surgery considering effective use of resources. A regular day will see you: Communicating effectively with patients, their relatives, and all hospital staff. Nursing assessment, care planning and provision of education to patients waiting for elective surgery. Ensure theatre scheduling effectively and efficiently utilises the allocated operating theatre time. About you You’ll bring with you: Ability to work unsupervised in an organised and confidential environment High level of initiative and motivation Ability to manage issues proactively, maintaining a keen focus on solutions that are evidence-based, in line with strategic direction to meet the needs of women and staff An open and approachable attitude, responding well to the needs of various hospital departments and staff in a timely and accessible way A “can do” attitude and a flexible approach to work Ability to balance competing and conflicting priorities and effective time management skills.
