About the Nexus Team


NEXUS Dual Diagnosis Service is part of a State-Wide Victorian Dual Diagnosis Initiative focused on providing capacity building through clinical consultation, training/education, organizational development and inter-sectorial collaboration within the Drug Treatment Services and Mental Health Services. NEXUS primarily focuses its activities in the cities of Yarra, Boroondara, Banyule and Nillumbik.

About the Role


The LEW (Lived Experience Worker) Project Worker, with support from the NEXUS team and in consultation with relevant services and individuals will promote and drive targeted projects and Nexus activities as required. This will be done through a co-design / co-production process ensuring that the work being done considers and embeds carers' and consumers' perspectives in the work and activities being rolled out.


Nexus is committed to providing services which are recovery orientated in line with the Strengths Model of Recovery Oriented Practice (‘Strengths’ Model) which focuses on a person’s strengths and goals, promoting self-determination and collaboration with consumers and carers. The Peer Project Worker will offer an optimistic viewpoint to consumers and provide a role model for hope and recovery.

Support Nexus staff to enhance the recovery focus for consumers and carers

Assist with and support collaboration with the consumer & carers, the multidisciplinary team and relevant community services

Provide support to the peer workforce, attend regular peer meetings, contribute to the further development of the peer worker framework and development of peer workforce training and education, including supervision and reflective practice and supporting and developing Dual Diagnosis elements for this work

Contribute to and co-design the development of projects and participate in the delivery of training and workforce programs and activities.

Develop and actively participate in the evaluation of the Peer & LEW projects, programs and activities.

Classifications for this position will range from YA49 - YA54 ($79,804 - $92,456 per annum pro rata)

Your Contribution

Lived experience of recovery from dual diagnosis (MH & substance use) issues and or caring for somebody with dual diagnosis

Tertiary qualifications in mental health or a related health or human services field are desirable

Experience in the provision of peer support for people experiencing mental health and or AOD issues

Experience working in mental health or a related field would be highly desirable

A current driver’s license

Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain. Worker Screening Check, or willing to obtain
