Job Description - NUM - Cardiothoracic Surgery and Respiratory Medicine

Fitzroy location

Senior leadership opportunity

Full time, fixed term until the 02nd of March 2025


About the Role
The Nurse Manager, will manage, maintain and promote the professional standards of Nursing Practice, whilst managing the operational resources of the Unit. Directly reporting and liaising with the General Manager of Specialty and Cancer Services and the Director of Nursing Fitzroy Campus, the NUM will be responsible for providing mentoring and leadership to the Nursing Profession in the Unit.

Daily clinical co-ordination of the ward/unit

A role model to staff, setting communication clinical and behavioural expectations that hold staff accountable for meeting these expectations.

Provide leadership to all staff inclusive of efficient leave management, staffing allocation, performance management and mandatory training requirements are undertaken as required

Identify and evaluate safety issues or clinical risks. Work with Quality and Risk to improve and maintain ward safety standards.

Utilise Workday to manage recruitment and minimise nursing vacancy

Instigate improvement projects to improve patient outcomes and standard of care


Classifications for this position will be NM11 ($126,074 per annum pro rata)

Your Contribution

Degree in general nursing which meets the requirements of AHPRA

Current practicing certificate

Highly regarded - Post Graduate Qualifications in Cardiothoracic or Nursing Management/Administration.

Cardiothoracic or speciality nursing experience.

Previous management / ANUM experience

Experience in the leadership of a multidisciplinary team

Experience in budget planning and preparation

Excellent qualities as a clinician

Current National criminal history check, or willing to obtain

About 4 East
4 East is an 18- 24 bed unit comprising of 14-18 cardiothoracic beds and 4-6 Respiratory beds. The unit cares for post-operative cardiothoracic surgical and respiratory medical patients requiring acute care, cardiac monitoring, management of Intercostal drainage, management of temporary cardiac pacing and low dose inotropic support.Working at St Vincent’s
