Job Description - Senior Mental Health Clinician , Queensland Health

About the role

The Court Liaison Service (CLS) also provides advice, support and training to court and watch house staff on mental health issues. CLS staff are established in locations across Queensland.  The CLS team located within RBWH provides services to courts and watch-houses from the Gold Coast, north to the Sunshine Coast and west to Toowoomba

The relieving clinician (Rover) is required to perform all the functions of a Court Liaison Officer. Rather than being allocated a primary court they will be required to attend any court location as required by acuity or to cover rostered absences. As such the position will require travel which may exceed 2 hours in each direction and may also require the person to be accommodated overnight if the travel times are incompatible with effective service provision. Further the position requires a high degree of adaptability and flexibility to provide service provision to all the court and watch houses who have different requirements including attendance times. To assist with facilitating this a work car may be allocated and the Rover will be required to work closely with the Team Leader regarding the flexible commencement and travel times.

About you

Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:

  • Undertake mental health assessments (including those people with complex psychosocial circumstances) in watch house and court settings by using a high degree of independent judgement and problem solving skills.
  • Apply professional judgement to complex cases, utilising evidence based clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 2016 and its application.
  • Develop an understanding of the new mental health act and perform functions as required under changes to the legislation in accordance with CLS procedures as they develop. This may require written reports to various members of the court systems.

Health Equity

It is expected that all Metro North Health staff, including the incumbent of this role as a valuable member of the Metro North workforce, contribute to the health equity agenda and meet the intent of supporting the defined six actions that specifically meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS), by actively supporting the elimination of racial discrimination and institutional racism; supporting increased access to health care; influencing the social, cultural and economic determinants of health; supporting the delivery of sustainable, culturally safe and responsive health services;  and recognise the importance of working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations to design, deliver, monitor and review the health and support services we provide.
