Selection Criteria

SC1. Demonstrated sound and safe working knowledge of hand and power tools and the ability to efficiently undertake general handyperson tasks, repairs and maintenance to the interior and exterior of buildings and ground works within the School.

SC2. Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and ability to work independently and manage time appropriately under the overall direction of the Principal team and work closely with the onsite Services Assistant (OSSA) of Cushman & Wakefield

SC3. Capacity to undertaken routine tasks across a range of maintenance and gardening functions.

SC4. Capacity to work cooperatively with a range of people including Cushman & Wakefield OSSA, teachers, education support staff and parents.

SC5 . Highly developed interpersonal skills related to working in an environment that includes staff, students, parents, community members and industry personnel.

Role

Attendance required during school coliday period and hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.

Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.

This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.

An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.

Responsibilities

The Buildings and Grounds Maintenance Manager will work under the leadership of the Principal team and work closely with the On-site Services Assistant (OSSA) from Cushman & Wakefield.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be required to work on site during school holiday periods.
  • Ensure that schools gardens and grounds are kept in a neat, tidy and safe manner at all times.
  • Organise, manage and coordinate the repair of faults in buildings/grounds as soon as practicable.
  • Manage and/or schedule and document planned maintenance activities, including, but not limited to essential services, air conditioning, heating, electrical, plumbing, fire services, pest control, painting, concreting, engineering, glazing, carpenters, asbestos audits, facilities audits and department inspections.
  • Manage the preparation of quotes, orders, deliveries and timelines for contract work. Instruct and coordinate service contractors and tradesmen and ensure works are carried out with due regard to protection of the buildings and grounds and also with minimum disruption to school activities.
  • Manage and perform the daily maintenance tasks whenever required which will include but is not limited to the removal of graffiti, emergency maintenance, cleaning and deliveries.
  • Conduct regular safety checks and provide a status report to the Assistant Principal and Business Manager.
  • Respond to service requests from staff for breakdowns and repairs and maintain records of such requests.
  • Manage the implementation as appropriate of OH&S and risk management procedures and ensure staff and contractors comply with OHS requirements and legislated standards.
  • Provide the Principal team and Business Manager with advice as required.
  • Assist with planning and staging of school events as required to ensure such matters as audio-visual equipment, furniture relocation and facilities in general meet the needs of the school through the thirdparty user (TPU) agreement process.
  • Respond to any emergency situation in an appropriate manner and undertake such other duties as may be required, noting such activities may be outside normal working hours or at weekends.
  • Undertake other duties as required by the principal or delegate.

Cranbourne East Primary School is an exciting state of the art facility built under the Partnerships Victoria in Schools Project (PViS), which opened at the start of 2011. The school is built for a long-term student enrolment of 450 students, however due to ongoing and rapid enrolment growth this figure has been surpassed with current enrolment at 1005 students.
