Selection Criteria

1. Sound interpersonal and coaching skills related to working with student-athletes from widely diverse age groups and sports

2. A highly developed understanding of the principles of rehabilitation for an adolescent athletic population

3. Demonstrated ability to design and conduct applied programs for both rehabilitation, reconditioning and athletic performance for developmental athletes across a wide range of sports

4. The ability to meet competing demands through effective prioritisation in a performance-oriented environment is also highly valued

5. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to elicit functional improvements and improved injury status within appropriate timeframes

6. Demonstrated experience with using athlete management software, performance technology, and by extension a detailed approach to clinical note-taking

Role

The High-Performance Preparation Program (HPP) at the Maribyrnong Sports Academy (MSA) is a strength & conditioning and education program timetabled within the school curriculum for all MSA Academy student-athletes. From Years 7-10, HPP is a core subject offered alongside other core subjects such as English, Maths and Science to all MSA Academy student-athletes and is designed to complement the technical training program at MSA.

The Rehabilitation Coordinator is tasked with being a first-point of contact for students (and their parent/carers) who have sustained a musculoskeletal injury. The Rehabilitation Coordinator then fills a variety of roles, the most important of which is to be the central communicator between stakeholders as well as working with the MSA Physiotherapist and where appropriate, external stakeholders, to implement and adapt athletic development programs.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting directly to the Performance Services Manager, the Rehabilitation Coordinator will undertake the following duties:

1. Contribute to the MSA injury management process as part of a multidisciplinary team that consists of the following:

§ Physiotherapist

§ Strength & Conditioning staff

§ Sport Coaching Staff

§ Performance Psychologists

§ Sports Dietitian

§ Athlete Wellbeing Coordinators

2. Communicate and implement the return to play outcomes with fellow Rehabilitation Coordinators and MSA-based health professionals.

3. Rehabilitation program design, maintenance of athlete injury-management and performance testing records, and delivery of specific rehabilitation sessions for the majority of student-athletes around their academic and sporting commitments.

4. Liaise with external and internal coaches, and external medical practitioners associated with the student-athletes in the development of rehabilitation programs.

5. Liaise with Parents/Carers regarding the current injury status of student-athletes within the MSA program.

6. Develop educational resources regarding the injury management process as well as common injury presentations.

Location Profile

Maribyrnong College provides a broad education for students in Years 7-12. It is also home to Victoria's only state-funded Sports Specialism with a sports enrolment comprising nearly 40% of the school population. The College provides a broad VCE and the majority of students undertake further study after Year 12. The school's International Student Program supports 25 international students, predominantly in Years 10 to 12. Additionally, the College provides an EAL program to support students of non-English speaking backgrounds. Maribyrnong College delivers programs that produce excellent outcomes for students in both academic and sporting endeavours and this is aptly described by the school's motto: "Pride in Performance". A High Achiever Program is offered and Year 10 accelerated students access VCE subjects. A rich extra-curricular program includes instrumental music and drama, a school production and a strong inter-school sport program. College facilities include a 230-seat theatre, a 7000 square metre Sport Stadium with indoor running track and elite training centre, and synthetic hockey, soccer and tennis facilities. The sport complex forms the base for the Maribyrnong Sports Academy program and all students at the College use this facility for Health and PE classes. The College has grown significantly in recent years with close to 1300 students enrolled and with strong enrolment demand at all year levels, the College is subject to an enrolment zone. Leading Teachers and Specialist teachers have responsibility for various curriculum and student management folios. The College has four principal class officers as well as a Sports Director responsible for the Maribyrnong Sports Academy. All students at Maribyrnong College undertake the VCE or the VCE ¿ Vocational Major, and the College consistently places in the top 20% of state schools for VCE performance.
