Job Description - NOC Team Leader - Residential

About us


We're a Melbourne based, Australian owned-and-operated Internet Service Provider that provides residential internet and phone connections Australia-wide, with a focus on regional and remote Australian connections.


We have an opportunity for a Team Lead level for our Network Operations Centre (NOC) Residential Division. You will report to our Network & IT Manager who oversees the IT Operational effectiveness across Residential & Enterprise Business.


We offer the full range of nbn products including Fibre, Fixed Wireless and Satellite services.


This hybrid role will involve a mix of Working from Home as well as from our office.


Working in a supportive team environment, the day-to-day role will involve Supervising a team comprising Level 1 and Level 2 engineers, effectively managing their productivity and ensuring a balanced workload to ensure optimal support & operational effectiveness to our Residential clients.

  • Ensure the timely delivery of projects assigned by the Network & IT Manager.
  • Handle any escalations by communicating with the manager to keep them informed and take necessary actions as required.
  • Lead infrastructure performance tuning and ensure high availability.
  • Manage network configuration in Cisco and Linux (Cumulus) environments, covering switching and routing technologies.
  • Maintain network and systems security, including firewalls, anti-virus measures, vulnerability management, and system patching/updates.
  • Develop infrastructure monitoring and reporting tools.
  • Implement and manage configuration management solutions.
  • Collaborate on creating test automation frameworks.
  • Oversee systems configuration and management in Windows and Linux environments, encompassing servers, databases, and storage systems.
  • Innovate and develop tools to optimize infrastructure utilization.
  • Provide on-call support and Level 3 escalation for hardware, network, and IT related issues during non-business hours and weekends.
  • Travel to data centres for out-of-hours work when necessary.
  • Exhibit flexibility to work outside regular hours when required.
  • Troubleshoot a wide range of technologies, design network solutions for new business initiatives, and ensure alignment with business, industry, and regulatory requirements.

Project Leadership Accountabilities

  • Responsible in defining project scope, set objectives, oversee delivery and successful execution against an approved project plan.

  • Oversee and manage the whole project lifecycle ensuring the project is delivered meeting the project plan, timeline and within budget.

  • Managing project risks and issues and ensure stakeholders are kept informed whilst maintaining stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Monitoring and reporting project progress.

  • Act as a technical lead by providing direction, in guiding the development team on technical best practices.

  • Design system architecture to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance.

  • Ensure optimal resource allocations to projects by ensuring optimised management of project resources (Human, Financial and Material)

  • Proven ability to manage resource conflict and constraints in a dynamic and changing operational landscape.

Ideally you will have the following:
  • Qualification(s) in the Information Technology industry with a focus on networking and IT is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a telecommunications provider or Managed Services Delivery environment.
  • Experience in proficiently manage Linux servers within virtualized environments.
  • Demonstrate expertise in Linux scripting languages, encompassing the fundamentals.
  • Possess a strong command of configuration management tools and exhibit familiarity with load balancing and firewall principles.
  • Showcase proficiency in utilizing network tools such as iptables, Linux IPVS, and HAProxy.
  • Bring valuable experience with virtualization technologies to the table.
  • Exhibit the ability to construct and oversee services on production servers effectively.
  • Possess knowledge of servers and switches, ensuring a comprehensive understanding.
  • Consistently deliver high-quality work and contribute positively to the team environment.
  • Apply strong TCP/IP networking expertise to enhance network performance.
  • Evidence a track record of working with databases professionally.
  • Display familiarity with dynamic routing protocols, including OSPF and BGP, as well as switching and routing concepts.
