Position Title: Bereavement and Supportive Services Manager, Palliative Care

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time

Hours per week: 38 hours

Position Grade: Counsellor Level 4 Year 1 -2 /Social Worker Level 4 Year 1-2/ Clinical Psychologist Year 1 -5

Salary: Dependent on award, Counsellor/Social Worker - $117,544- 120,393 ,Clinical Psychologist - $105,553 - 128,653

Enterprise Agreement The Named NSW (Non-Declared) Affiliated Health Organisations' Professional & Associated Staff Agreement 2022 as amended or in force from time to time.

About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity to work in the palliative care team leading our Bereavement and Supportive Services at Sacred Heart Health Service. This position is accountable for the overall leadership and management of the Bereavement Service, and provides clinical counselling assessments and ongoing bereavement support and treatment to clients of the service.


The position will play a key role in the establishment of a Compassionate Communities model of care, which the Sacred Heart palliative care service is developing. In addition to clinical expertise, the position will contribute to the overall strategy and leadership of the Bereavement Service, and will provide sound financial, administrative, operational and human resource management for the Service. The position is full-time permanent and is based from the Sacred Heart Health Service, Darlinghurst.

About you:
We are seeking a skilled and energetic Bereavement and Supportive Services Manager who possesses a passion for person centred care. We welcome applications from people who are keen to help us support and develop our palliative care services.

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, current registration with AHPRA for Psychologist or eligibility for membership of AASW for Social Workers and have the ability to work clinically within their professional discipline.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to motivate and organise staff to achieve organizational outcomes
  • Experience in palliative care or end of life context, with a knowledge of bereavement theories, loss and grief processes
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, consultation and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to develop and refine relationships both within and external to the organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement principles, clinical policy and procedure development and implementation
  • Experience in collating and reporting on data to enhance service delivery
  • Must hold a valid NSW driver’s licence
