Job Description - Senior Mechanical Engineer

Primary Purpose & Responsibilities of Position:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer specialising in Subsea Research and Development (R&D) and equipment manufacturing, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and improving the subsea systems, components, and technologies of CSS’s Envirocart technology.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design and Analysis: Develop innovative subsea mechanical systems and components, to develop improvements to CSS’s Envirocart technology. Participate in inhouse design reviews, and develop concept drawings in conjunction with engineering and drafting personnel. Ability to perform finite element analysis and simulations to ensure designs meet required specifications is a significant advantage.

2. Prototyping and Testing: Build prototypes of subsea assemblies, equipment etc as proposed improvements to CSS's Envirocart system, and conduct rigorous testing in controlled environments. Analyse test data to improve designs and ensure compliance with industry standards.

3. Materials Selection: Work with engineering team to select appropriate materials for subsea applications, considering factors such as corrosion resistance, strength, and durability in extreme conditions.

4. Subsea Systems Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical components into CSS's complete control systems, ensuring they function seamlessly and efficiently.

5. Innovation and Research: Stay updated on emerging subsea and ROV technologies and research trends, contributing to the company's innovation efforts. Identify and evaluate opportunities for technological advancements and cost savings.

6. Documentation: Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including basis of design, design specifications, technical reports, and computer-aided design and drafting drawings.

7. Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and other members of the CSS team, to deliver holistic subsea solutions.

Office based role in Bibra lake; there may be requirements for site travel (national or international) from time to time

Required Competencies, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A master's degree may be preferred for more senior roles.
  • Professional engineering license (PE) is a plus.
  • A minimum of 15 years mechanical design engineering experience
  • Proven experience in subsea mechanical design, preferably in R&D and manufacturing roles.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software, including SolidWorks.
  • Ability to work within a disciplined engineering framework, following due process and best practice to eliminate errors and facilitate reliability and quality of the products.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with ROV equipment and materials.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and challenging environment.
