About the role

The Aboriginal Community Liaison Officer works as a key member of a team who foster relationships between Aboriginal parents and/or carers, the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group Inc., the broader Aboriginal community and NSW Public schools, to support improved outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students.

About you

• Bring strong community ties and deep insight of local Aboriginal culture and context levels


• Be motivated to develop and maintain relationships with the local Aboriginal and School communities


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all


• Able to be culturally sensitive and display empathy in your approach when dealing with sensitive matters


• Communicate with clarity and confidence across diverse groups and be an advocate for change.

• Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.

Essential requirements of the role

• Hold a valid clearance to work with Children (Working with Children Check).


• Hold a valid NSW driver’s license.


• This is an identified Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander position. Aboriginality/Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977.  Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants must provide documentation upon appointment. On Thursday, 30th July at 2:30pm, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Recruitment and Advisory team will host an online Yarn Up (information session) about this role.
