Active Directory Specialist (6-month contract)

This is not your standard Active Directory role.

You will step into a high-impact specialist engagement supporting a customer operating within a highly regulated, mission-critical environment. Working from a pre-approved design, you will build, configure and operationalise a production Active Directory environment within a complex Operational Technology (OT) network — solving real-world migration challenges and developing the operational runbooks that will support the environment long after the project is complete. This is a hands-on delivery role where your expertise will directly influence resilience, security and operational continuity.

What You’ll Be Doing

Active Directory Delivery

• Build and configure Active Directory in line with the approved design and governance framework

• Deploy hardened Windows Server domain controllers, AD DS, DNS and supporting identity services

• Implement OU structures, service account models and role based access aligned to operational needs

• Configure security controls, privileged access and endpoint hardening through Group Policy

• Execute work within structured change and validation processes

Application Migration and Integration

• Diagnose and resolve authentication, Kerberos, DNS and legacy integration challenges

• Partner with application owners and vendors to address identity and access blockers

• Support migration planning, validation, cutover and rollback

• Maintain structured issue tracking, root cause analysis and continuous improvement

• Refine operational guidance based on real world application behaviour

Testing, Documentation and Handover

• Develop and execute structured testing across authentication, resilience and failover

• Produce high quality as built documentation and operational artefacts

• Develop clear and practical runbooks

• Deliver knowledge transfer to operational and support teams

• Support transition to steady state operations and ongoing service ownership

What You’ll Bring

The Essentials

• Strong experience designing, implementing and supporting Active Directory in enterprise environments

• Exposure to OT, highly segmented or sensitive network environments

• Proven troubleshooting capability across authentication and application integration

• Experience producing operational documentation and runbooks

• Strong working knowledge of Windows Server, PKI, DNS, Group Policy and PowerShell

• Comfortable working within structured governance and change environments

Bonus Points

• Microsoft identity or hybrid administrator certifications

• Experience in critical or high availability environments

• Familiarity with OT security frameworks and best practice

• Exposure to hybrid identity environments

• Experience supporting operational transition and service handover
