Overview of Program 


The Family Safety Program is a client-centred, trauma informed service designed to provide counselling and support to families experiencing relationship difficulties. The team provides specialist family violence services to men, women, adolescents and children who have, or are currently experiencing family violence.



Position Objective


The Adolescent Family Violence Practitioner provides intensive, innovative and holistic interventions to young people who are victim-survivors of family violence and/or using violence in the home. The role works with the young people to assess risk, complete safety plans and often involved an assertive outreach approach. The Adolescent Family Violence Practitioner Family supports young people to understand the impact of family violence, address their use of violence and to provide counselling and coaching to develop and strengthen skills to manage their emotions and communicate in safe and appropriate ways. The Adolescent Family Violence Practitioner works in collaboration with the Integrated Family Services team who are providing support to the wider family.





Key Responsibilities


The key responsibilities include but are not limited to: 





      • Conducting on-going risk assessments and developing safety planning with young people to mitigate risk and ensure safety.

      • Providing both in-office and outreach counselling support to young people using Family Violence.

      • Working in collaboration with the Integrated Family Services to enable a whole of family approach in supporting the young person.

      • Linking the young person in with support services as required.

      • Liaising with the Family Safety &Wellbeing Leadership Team (Team Leader and Practice Leader) and relevant program staff when necessary.

      • Ensuring services are delivered to quality standards, comply with relevant legislation and achieve contractual requirements.

      • Maintaining professional documentation and administrative systems according to  agency and legislative requirements.

      • Commitment to research and evaluation and application of evidence-based 
        practice.

      • Compliance with the organisation’s Program Planning and Evaluation Framework. 



      Key Selection Criteria




      1. Tertiary qualifications (minimum Bachelor’s Degree), in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology or similar with specialisation in both Family Violence and working with adolescents.


      2. Demonstrated ability in undertaking assessments and working effectively with young people who use violence and have complex needs.


      3. Experience in working with and understanding of developmental and therapeutic needs of young people who have experienced trauma, abuse and neglect.


      4. Demonstrated both clinical and outreach experience working with young people.


      5. High level of performance and innovation preferably relating to assertive and developmentally appropriate engagement.


      6. Ability to respond to challenging behaviours and an understanding of the origins of


      7. these behaviours when working with young people including trauma and attachment.


      8. Information technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and client


      9. management systems and online video conferencing
