What's the role?
The National Sports Newsroom services all News Corp Australia mastheads and covers sports at all levels, ranging from junior local sport to international competitions.
Each month more than 17 million Australians choose to consume news and information from News Corp’s digital and print products – more than any other media group in Australia.
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and innovative individual who is passionate about sport. Working with the AFL Editor to manage the national AFL newsroom to make News Corp the first destination for AFL news, analysis, features and live coverage. This role is based on site at our Southbank office.
What You’ll Do
Generate compelling digital-first, data and audience-led AFL content to maximise audience growth.
Manage staff responsible for generating AFL content in story form, video, podcasting and social media across NCA channels.
Work with the key NCA stakeholders (masthead COSes, News Sport digital team, Digital Social Hub etc) to ensure they help to deliver the best sport coverage.
Key aims: Grow digital subscription acquisition (new subscribers) and drive retention and premium editorial breaches (C-Score/SPVs), distribute our journalism via social media, app alerts and new audiences on existing social media channels or emerging channels.
Collaborate with the News Sport digital team and CODE Sports in their planning and daily publishing.
Attend and brief stakeholders in conferences and meetings as required.
Manage staff and rosters.
Apply the News Sport audience-first and data-led digital subscription acquisition and retention/engagement growth strategy.
Use data and analytics to inform and drive outcomes aligned to the company’s “Stay and Pay” strategy.
Accountable for applying changes to the digital strategy as directed by the business.
Success measures
Digital audience growth in News Sport and CODE Sports.
News Sport, CODE Sports and mastheads meeting key targets.
Commercial and partnership requirements delivered.
Who are you?
2-7 years’ experience in journalism with strong news judgement, and an understanding of social media, SEO and digital data.
Willing to embrace change and demonstrate agility in a fast-paced sector
Self-starter who can maintain high levels of personal organisation and time management.
Ability to project plan and anticipate visual and online needs
Detail-oriented, able to stay calm under pressure and know how to balance priorities
Strong motivation, a collaborative work ethic and the ability to meet deadlines while remaining calm under pressure.
