APS6 Data Analyst/Scientist 

About the Section: 
Join a dynamic team responsible for overseeing and delivering comprehensive reporting on illicit tobacco and e-cigarette enforcement as mandated by legislation. This role involves implementing a data collection and management framework to support Whole of Government reporting, including law enforcement, excise and customs duty, enforcement statistics, and parliamentary reports. Key responsibilities also include preparing ministerial and parliamentary products and supporting the ITEC Commissioner at various inquiries and hearings.

About the role: 
The ITEC Performance Reporting Data Analyst will develop and deliver complex data analytics solutions, including data visualisation products, to support the mandated reporting. This role involves resolving data integrity issues, identifying data gaps, and integrating data from various sources to inform decision-making.

Key Responsibilities: 

Problem Identification and Requirements Gathering:

• Liaise with business areas to determine needs and negotiate approaches.
• Set data science/analytics goals and deliverables.
• Visualise and convert complex data analytic results into interpretable formats.
•  Prepare documentation presenting clear and actionable business insights.
•  Present insights to stakeholders in understandable language.
•  Build and maintain relationships with customers and stakeholders.

  
Data Collection, Interpretation, and Manipulation:

•   Establish internal and external data sources.
•   Identify the availability and accessibility of required data.
•   Perform data cleaning for structured and unstructured data.
•   Design and monitor data cleaning approaches.
•   Conduct exploratory data analysis and resolve data issues.

Development and Deployment of Data Science Solutions:

•   Achieve stakeholder buy-in for data science solutions.
•   Develop insights-driven data science solutions.
•  Lead and coordinate development for moderately complex projects.

Development of Data Science Capabilities:

•  Collaborate to identify and address data science capability gaps.
•   Identify and address data analytic anomalies.
•   Evaluate and recommend data analytic tools and approaches.

Team Leadership:

•   Assist in leading a data science team or program.
•   Set and manage day-to-day team priorities.
•   Establish team performance goals and foster a high-performance culture.

Daily Tasks:

• Support the development of a data collection and management framework for Whole of Government reporting, integrating law enforcement and public health measures.

Requirements:

• Ability to identify, analyse, and synthesize data from various sources.
• Quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills to identify trends.
